There are various job search channels that could land you a dream job. I have summarised job hunting approaches for the local recruitment environment based on my past experiences.
Job Advertising Websites
- JobsDB is the most popular recruitment website, mainly for roles in community, clinics and pharmaceutical industry. Search for the position title and company name.
- MingPao has a career search section that you could find job advert. posts for recruitment in hospitals. Simply search “Pharmacist” and a few will pop up.
- LinkedIn is a great source for both job advert search and head hunter search. Create yourself a professional profile and the recommended jobs will be prompted to you everyday.
- Official company websites (e.g. Watsons Career, Mannings Team, Jacobson Pharma Group, Sanatorium Hospital) provide first-hand job posts. Companies such as multinational Big Pharma have their own recruitment online platform, so you might not find any job posts on the generic job advertising websites.
Walk-In
The Walk-In approach would probably be only suitable for independent community pharmacies and pharmacy chains. Step up to the pharmacy counter and ask for job opportunities. They will normally direct you to the right person or sometimes would leave you the appropriate name card for further contacts.
Head Hunters
Once you have created your LinkedIn profile “properly”, I am sure the head hunters will approach you over time. If not, try to google online and look for them, there are big and small HR agency companies out there for the healthcare sector.
Referrals
Referrals always give you the highest chance to successfully secure a job when there are shortage of staff in the companies. Talk to your friends!
“Hiring managers are incentivized to find a “good-enough” hire quickly, rather than a “perfect” hire slowly. Thus, whenever possible, they will consider their colleagues’ vouched-for referrals before considering online applicants. The challenge for job seekers is to efficiently become one of those referrals. While spending eight hours a day becoming a referral via informational meetings may seem inefficient, it’s far better than the alternative—spending eight hours a day applying to job postings online. Well… I have never come across any career fairs all sort for permanent jobs… please kindly inform me if you know any.
